Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is on the mend.

The Basketball Hall of Famer spent his 68th birthday Thursday undergoing quadruple heart bypass surgery at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center and is expected to make a full recovery.

Abdul-Jabbar was admitted to the hospital last week with cardiovascular disease, the UCLA Medical Center confirmed. 

After an All-American career at UCLA, he was drafted by the Bucks in 1969 and then traded to the Lakers in 1975, where he remained until 1989. Abdul-Jabbar won six MVP awards and six NBA Championships and, at the time of his retirement, was the NBA's all-time leader in points scored (38,387), field goals made (15,837) and blocked shots (3,189).
