Saints vs. Vikings final score: Minnesota pulls OT upset in New Orleans

  • NFL Saints v Vikings Saints Vikings

Quarterback Kirk Cousins took a big step toward erasing his reputation as an inadequate big-game player Sunday, leading the Vikings to a 26-20 overtime win over the Saints in the wild-card round.

Cousins made two huge passes in overtime — a 43-yard throw to wide receiver Adam Thielen to get down to the goal-line and a 4-yard fade to tight end Kyle Rudolph for the walk-off touchdown.

Those completions polished a 19-for-31, 242-yard day through the air. Running back Dalvin Cook scored twice on the ground, helping the Vikings advance to a divisional round matchup with the 49ers.

The Saints forced overtime with a last-second field goal, but that drive left many scratching their heads. Head coach Sean Payton used two timeouts on the previous two series, leaving New Orleans with one for the final possession of regulation.

He didn't use it, so even though Saints quarterback Drew Brees got them into field-goal range with ease, there was little hope of winning the game with a touchdown.

The Bears, Jets and 8 other NFL teams with absolutely no chance to win Super Bowl 55

  • NFL American Football

Save your angry tweets. Log out of Facebook messenger. Find your pressure points and do a couple "woosahs."

Let's be blunt: Your favorite NFL team probably sucks.

As much as the idea of "any given Sunday" or "the one time" is cute, we can't fool ourselves into believing that all 32 NFL teams have the same odds to win the Super Bowl as the teams at the top. Sorry, it's simply not the case.

Sure, some of the NFL is getting hot and healthy at the right time — but if you stink for 13 weeks out of the 17-week season, then it really won't matter much. Even with an expanded playoff picture in 2020, teams that have the opportunity to sneak in probably won't make noise in the playoffs.

So, without further ado, a message to the fans of these 10 NFL teams: your team might be good one day, but that one day definitely isn't coming in 2020.

Chiefs vs. Broncos score, results: Patrick Mahomes, KC grind out ugly win, clinch playoff spot

  • NFL Chiefs v Broncos Chiefs Broncos American Football

Aside from some fancy sidearm and cross-body throws from Patrick Mahomes, there wasn't much pretty about the Chiefs' 22-16 win over the Broncos on "Sunday Night Football."

Kansas City moved the ball decently most of the game but struggled to convert in the red zone, settling for five field goals from Harrison Butker. The lone Chiefs touchdown came on a 20-yard strike from Mahomes to Travis Kelce, who hauled in eight catches for 136 yards and the TD.

Mahomes completed 25 of 40 passes (62.5 percent) for 318 yards and a touchdown but could have easily had at least two more scores.

The first came on a 40-yard heave toward Tyreek Hill in the end zone. The pass was ruled incomplete on the field, but replays showed that Hill somehow came down with a miraculous catch and didn't even realize it. Kansas City punted before the play could be challenged or reviewed. On the ensuing Denver possession, the Broncos marched 90 yards for a touchdown, making it a 14-point swing on the play.

Magic Johnson tweets cynical message about Lakers after latest loss

Clippers' Doc Rivers on ownership uncertainty: 'It has hurt us'

  • NBA 夜网论坛

LAS VEGAS — Tuesday was supposed to be the day that the Clippers’ recent bumpy ride ended with a triumphant $2 billion sale of the team from the Sterling family to former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer. Instead, with the trial that will decide whether Shelly Sterling had the right to make the sale in the stead of disgraced and banned owner Donald Sterling, her husband, on delay, the Clippers’ situation remains in flux.

For coach and team president Doc Rivers, that’s a bit of a hassle. He is not officially able to sit down and work out details with Ballmer, but said he has “accidentally” run into Ballmer a few times.

“(A meeting is) not really allowed,” Rivers said here Monday as NBA Summer League play continued. “Bump-ins like today, I don’t know how that happened — things like that. It’s good, I look forward to that. It has hurt us some this summer. You go in to talk to a free agent and most guys, teams will bring their owner. I go in, looking like this, by myself. I don’t know what effect that has had but that’s not been great for us.”

Indeed, one of the concerns for the Clippers in the wake of the scandal that saw Donald Sterling hit with a lifetime league ban because of a racist rant that was caught on tape was that the uncertain ownership situation would weigh on the decisions of agents and players when signing contracts. That’s been borne out.

X-rays taken at halftime were negative. The Thunder called the sprain "mild." Durant missed the team's first 17 games after breaking his right foot in the preseason.

"I was a little nervous, but I knew that when I got up and started walking that it felt good," he said, according to The Associated Press. "I just wanted to make sure with the X-ray that everything was good."

Durant told reporters after the game that he's hopeful he can play Friday at the Lakers.

"I wanted to play. I wanted go back out there, but we wanted to be cautious," Durant said, according to the AP.

Before Thursday's injury, Durant had carried OKC's offense, scoring almost half its 63 first-half points. He made his first six shots and was 10-for-13 from the floor overall (5-of-6 from 3-point range). He had 16 points after 5 1/2 minutes.

Thunder's Russell Westbrook set to return Wednesday night

Thunder guard Russell Westbrook will return from facial surgery on Wednesday night when Oklahoma City hosts the 76ers, he confirmed to reporters.

Westbrook will don a clear protective mask over his surgically repaired cheek, which he injured during the Thunder's 115-112 loss at Portland on Friday after being inadvertently kneed in the side of the head.

"It's regular," Westbrook said, via ESPN. "You can't get crazy with the mask. The league only lets you have a clear mask. So that's all I got."

Westbrook previously missed 14 games in November due to a fracture in his right hand. Although he wore a protective brace on his hand for several games when he returned, the face mask will take more getting used to.

"It's definitely different," Westbrook added. "I've never played in a mask, so it's something I have to adjust to and I'm just going to go with it."

Westbrook, 26, is averaging 26.5 points, 6.8 rebounds and 8.1 assists in 45 games this season and boasted three consecutive triple-doubles. His quick return should boost a Thunder team that is still without forward Kevin Durant.
