But both of those accomplishments fail to compare to the night Giants starting pitcher Chris Heston had. Heston, 27, threw the 17th no-hitter in Giants history, and the first of the 2015 season. He also became the first pitcher since Sandy Koufax in 1965 to strike out the side to complete a no-hitter. Giants' Norichika Aoki could return from fractured fibula Friday

  • Baseball Sidelined since June 20 with a broken right fibula, Norichika Aoki could come off the disabled list and return to the Giants lineup as early as Friday when the team begins a home series against the A’s, CSN Bay Area reported.According to manager Bruce Bochy, a recent CT scan showed Aoki's fibula is 80 percent healed. The outfielder and leadoff batter was recently given clearance to begin a rehab assignment and is expected to play five innings for Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday and seven innings on Wednesday. If Aoki has a successful rehab stint, he could return to the active roster in a matter of days. He was hitting .317 with two home runs, 19 RBIs, 12 stolen bases and a .383 on-base percentage in 67 games before sustaining the injury. Pete Rose bet on baseball as a player, newly released notebook appears to show

  • Baseball Pete Rose bet on baseball — including Reds games — while he was still an active player in 1986, a report says.ESPN obtained copies of pages from a notebook federal investigators seized from a Rose associate in 1989, shortly after the all-time hits leader accepted a lifetime ban from baseball. PETE ROSE: If ban lifted, what next? | Classic Pete Rose photosThe notebook, which belonged to Michael Bertolini, appears to document extensive sports betting by Rose and Bertolini from March through July 1986, Rose's last season as a player. Rose took over as player-manager of the Reds with 41 games remaining in the 1984 season and spent the rest of that year and the following two seasons as an active player. He has long maintained that he never bet on baseball during his playing days, and only in 2004 did he back down on his original stance that he had never bet on the game during his time as the Reds' manager. The newly obtained documents, which have been sealed by a court order for the last 26 years, outline numerous bets apparently made by Rose on baseball along with college and professional basketball. There are no indications he bet against the Reds. The evidence was not available to investigator John Dowd when he assembled his landmark report against Rose that led to the banishment, though Dowd did obtain testimony from other Rose associates saying the hits leader had placed bets during his playing days.ESPN[......]

trade rumor: Yovani Gallardo reportedly 'going to the Dodgers and fast'

  • Baseball THE RUMOR: Rangers starter Yovani Gallardo will be the next front-line pitcher traded, and that he will soon be headed to the Dodgers. R夜网论坛EPORTED BY: ESPN's Jayson Stark on "Baseball Tonight." MORE: Seven best destinations for Papelbon | Red Sox discussing prospects with Phillies as part of Hamels talksTHE DETAILS: Stark noted the Rangers have fallen out of contention this season but are simultaneously in buy and sell mode. Fox Sports' Jon Paul Morosi reported earlier in the day that the two clubs were in talks about Gallardo, but a deal wasn't close to being finalized.  THIS SEASON: Gallardo, 29, owns an impressive 2.91 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 80:43 K:BB ratio in 117 1/3 innings. He is earning $14 million and can become a free agent in the fall. OUR TAKE: The Dodgers are seeking to add another rotation arm and have been linked to Reds ace Johnny Cueto and Phillies ace Cole Hamels, among others, but Gallardo would come cheaper. The Dodgers aren't interested in trading top-level prospects Corey Seager and Julio Urias, but they will likely need to send two prospects to the Rangers, seeing how the Astros sent two mid-level prospects to the A's for rental pitcher Scott Kazmir on Thursday. Gallardo is scheduled to pitch in Anaheim on Saturday against the Angels; he might not have to leave LA after the weekend.[......]

Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon wants Fernando Rodney to reclaim closer role

  • Baseball Fernando Rodney has endured a difficult start to the season, but thing夜网论坛s could be looking up for the demoted closer.Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon surprisingly put Rodney in the game for the ninth inning on Friday, and the long-time closer earned his first save in a month, after being demoted in early June. MORE: Ranking the top 10 unbreakable baseball records“My hope is Rodney becomes that lock-down ninth-inning guy again," McClendon said via newstribune.com. "I think we’re a better club if he’s in the ninth, Carson is in the eighth and (Mark) Lowe and (Charlie) Furbush in the seventh. It closes the gap tremendously. “That’s my hope. But I don’t know if that’s going to happen or when it’s going to happen. For right now, we’ll keep doing what we’re doing. We’ve got to win ballgames.”Carson Smith is 5-for-5 in save opportunities while filling in for Rodney, but was called on in the eighth inning on Friday against the Angels.“If you lose the game in the eighth,” McClendon said, “the ninth means nothing. I thought it was the best chance to preserve that lead at that particular time.”Rodney has 15 saves on the season despite a dreadful 5.70 ERA and 1.57 WHIP, so it remains to be seen if he will be able to re-take the closer's role in Seattle.[......]

Young Giants fan shoves hot dog through catcher's gear

  • It's the classic conundrum: Do you take your catcher's gear off to eat your hot dog or do you try to shove it through the face guard? The answer was obvious for one young Giants fan on Friday. A kid showed up to AT&T Park in full-on gear and he wasn't about to take it off for any reason. Even if that reason was sustaining life. David Ortiz makes Red Sox history at first base by not recording putout

  • Baseball David Ortiz is typically the Red Sox's designated hitter,夜网论坛 but on Sunday he started at first base. You might not have known it if you watched the game, though. From @EliasSports: Today marked the first time in the franchise's 17,867-game history that the Red Sox did not have a 1B record a putout.— Jon Shestakofsky (@Shesta_Sox) July 6, 2015That's right, Ortiz didn't record an out standing on first base the entire game. MORE: Rare photos from inside the Green Monster | All-Star Game starting lineupsThere were two ground ball outs during the game, but the Red Sox got the outs in creative fashion. Ortiz was involved in the first out when he fielded the grounder and tossed the ball to pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez who stepped on first to get the out. The second out was called on a bunt attempt due to batter interference. Every other out was handled by someone other than Ortiz at first base. What makes this fact even crazier is when you realize how little Ortiz actually plays first base. The last time he did it against an AL opponent was on August 5, 2006.[......]
