Lakers free agency rumors: L.A. eyeing these 3 players

  • NBA null Basketball

The Lakers are showing interest in three veteran centers who could help bolster their depth entering the 2019-20 season.

According to ESPN's Brian Windhorst and Adrian Wojnarowski, the Lakers are eyeing Brook Lopez, DeAndre Jordan and Nikola Vucevic in free agency. The Lakers still have eight spots left to fill on their roster.

"The Lakers, I think, are sniffing around (Lopez)," Windhorst reported. "I think the Lakers need perimeter players. I think they're going to have to use their money on perimeter players. I know DeAndre Jordan is a guy on the Lakers' radar that they're hoping they may able to get for relatively cheap because he wants to be back in L.A."

The report comes after the Lakers reportedly acquired Anthony Davis through a trade with the Pelicans last week. While anything can happen in free agency, the Lakers' interest in these three players gives insight into how they plan to build their franchise around LeBron James and Davis.

Lopez is coming off a season in which he shot 36.5 percent with the Bucks. He played the 2017-18 season with the Lakers. He said in 2018 that the way Los Angeles moved on from him after signing James was "tough."

Ainge on importance of Celtics adding ‘good people'

  • NBA null Basketball

Danny Ainge wants the Celtics’ roster to be filled with “good people.”

Boston is expected to undergo a major overhaul this summer and it already added four players — Romeo Langford, Grant Williams, Carsen Edwards and Tremont Waters — in the draft last week.

Ainge, the Celtics longtime president of basketball operations, was asked about the rookies and what he is looking for in new acquisitions when he met with reporters at a press conference Monday.

“I think it just makes life more enjoyable when everybody is humble, hard working and will play any role they have to (in order) to help the team succeed, " Ainge said. "You do have to have a certain amount of talent to win, as we all know, but goo夜网论坛d people makes coming to work more fun."

Kyrie Irving and Al Horford, two starters for Boston in 2018-19, are reportedly planning to sign elsewhere in free agency this summer. Despite the anticipated changes, Ainge told reporters last week he's still confident in the team's direction.

"I'm excited about our team going forward," Ainge said at the time. "I like[......]

NBA Draft results 2019: Grades, analysis for every pick in Rounds 1-2

  • NBA null null null null Basketball

The 2019 NBA Draft has come and gone, leaving the typical round of questions. Which teams managed to come out of the draft looking good? Which ones floundered and never quite found their way? Who drafted Georgios Papagiannis in the lottery?

That’s why we’re here to play armchair quarterback and hand out some draft grades. Hopefully it’ll help figure out who did well and who didn’t. Of course, all of this could look horribly stupid in three years when we find out which prospects actually panned out. Such is the risk of offering up instant grades.

    NBA DRAFT WINNERS & LOSERS:
Pelicans, Grizzlies build bright futures; Suns, Wizards reach

A quick note about the grading philosophy employed below: I’ve historically found one of the most frustrating things about reading NBA Draft grades to be that I don’t understand why picks are being graded the way they are. So, I wanted to lay out a rubric of sorts to try to help the reader make sense of what’s t[......]

NBA rumors: Lakers, Warriors among 12 teams attending workout for Amar'e Stoudemire, Monta Ellis

Amar'e Stoudemire and Monta Ellis are both looking to return to the NBA.

Stoudemire, 36, last appeared in an NBA game in 2015-16 with the Heat. He scored 18.9 points per game and made six All-Star teams during his 14-year career but struggled with injuries over his last few seasons.

Kevin Durant chose Nets because he loves their 'system,' GM says

  • NBA null Basketball

Kevin Durant was a fan of the Nets even during his final season with the Warriors.

The former MVP thought highly of Brooklyn and its style of play, which is one of the reasons he chose the Nets over other suitors in free agency.

General manager Sean Marks told WFAN on Tuesday that in his first conversation with Durant after the announcement, the star said: "I 夜网论坛love the system. I love how you guys play. I see how hard you guys play ... you were never out of games. We could never take you guys lightly."

Marks stood by the fact he didn't know Durant's choice to join the organization until he announced it on Instagram just a few minutes after free agency began on June 30.

"What we knew was we were either getting a teleconference call with Kevin that night or we were going to potentially get a meeting," Marks said. "We'd seen some media reports earlier in the day that Kevin had crossed several teams off his list and we were still one of them (being considered). And those reports were there for everybody to read. And when Kevin posted it on The Boardroom Instagram site, that was news to all of us in the office."

Should Lakers be concerned about LeBron James' workload?

  • NBA null Basketball

The Lakers took a big swing and missed on signing Kawhi Leonard when he chose to join the Clippers, yet still walked away from the offseason with a much-improved roster. All-Star forwards LeBron James and Anthony Davis will be surrounded by new role players like Danny Green, DeMarcus Cousins and Jared Dudley, plus a few Lakers from last year in Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, JaVale McGee and Rajon Rondo.

This team is very much a contender for a title in 2020 — if it's able to properly regulate James' workload and help the 34-year-old avoid another significant injury.

    NBA OFFSEAS夜网论坛ON GRADES:
Clippers, Nets, Lakers emerge from chaos as big winners

After suffering a groin strain during LA's 2018 Christmas Day contest against the Warriors, James missed 17 games before returning at the end of January. Even with James back on the floor, the Lakers failed to earn a playoff berth, ending the first year of "LA-Bron" in disaster.

James is an athletic freak of nature not only because of his rare combination of strength and agility, but also because of his incredible run of health over 16 seasons. The groin strain he suffered last year was the worst injury of his career, and could be easily dismissed considering James' track record.

Steve Kerr calls out Lakers for Anthony Davis recruitment: 'It’s bad for the league'

  • NBA null null Basketball

Warriors coach Steve Kerr is concerned with how the Lakers handled their recruitment of Anthony Davis.

The saga was well noted, with Davis publicly wanting a trade from the Pelicans and Los Angeles blatantly going after Davis near the trade deadline in February before negotiations with the Pelicans fell through.

For Kerr, that left a bad taste in his mouth, even though other players have negotiated their way to different teams. Kerr said Davis' situation is different because he had a couple years left on his contract with New Orleans.

“I’m talking more about the Anthony Davis situation,” Kerr said on The Warriors Insider Podcast. “Where a guy is perfectly healthy and has a couple years left on his deal and says, ‘I want to leave.’ That’s a real problem that the league has to address and that the players have to be careful with.

“When you sign on that dotted line, you owe your effort and your play to that team, to that city, to the fans. And then (once the contract runs out) it’s completely your right to leave as a free agent. But if you sign the contract, then you should be bound to that contract.
